St Matthias' Parish News Frederica Mathewes-Green is the featured guest of St Matthias' 2005 Easter Celebration Weekend "Sex
in the City: Men, Women, and the Future of Civilization"

the theme of a series of addresses when Frederica Mathewes-Green visited St
Matthias' Church on the weekend of May 7 and 8, 2005. Each year, St Matthias'
hosts a celebration weekend late in the Easter season, each year with a
featured speaker whose sessions are offered free of cost to the public.A Beliefnet.com columnist and National Public Radio commentator, Ms Mathewes-Green took as her topic the current climate of sexual mores and behavior in America. Her talks on Saturday morning, May 7, discussed how we've arrived "where we are" and how we might find our way forward. An opportunity for questions and answers followed her presentations. On Sunday morning, May 8, Ms Mathewes-Green addressed the 9:10am Adult Sunday School Class with the topic, "Why Humans Mate." In this talk she examined humankind from a scientific standpoint, and offered conclusions concerning how human beings should use their God-given sexuality. Frederica Mathewes-Green is the author of several books, including Real Choices: Listening to Women Looking for Alternatives to Abortion; The Open Door: Entering the Sanctuary of Icons and Prayer; Gender: Men, Women, Sex, Feminism; and The Illuminated Heart: The Ancient Christian Path of Transformation. In addition, she has contributed articles to many publications such as Smithsonian, National Review, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Parenting, Christianity Today, and National Catholic Register. Raised in Charleston, South Carolina, Ms Mathewes-Green holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Virginia Episcopal Seminary. |
